On a fundamental level, we imagine that most people know that MotoGP is professional motorbike racing. It is performed on vehicles which are purpose-built to go as fast as they conceivably can, vastly different to the bikes you would find♍ on commercial roads.

The next thing to know is that this is the top level of professional motorcycle racing. With few pit stops and average speeds closꦏe to 200 km/h, races offer roughly 40 minutes of nail-biting tension and action.

Historically speaking, MotoGP began relatively recently. In 2002, the MotoGP replaced the 500cc motorbike racing class and reintroduced four-stroke engines, creating the sport as we know it today. Since then, we have seen witnessed both glory and tragedy, the latter r🔯eminding us that this sport truly is death-defying.

The Other Divisions

Sticking with a little bit of history for the moment, we'll move into the 2010s. This decade saw new divisions, with Moto2 and Moto3 coming in 2010 and 2012 respectively.

Lower levels are fairly easy to understand, with Moto2 comprising the second class and Moto3 the third. Each have their own bike specification; for instance, Moto3 uses💮 250cc four-stroke engines, while Moto2 uses a 765cc engine. The E-Class is the newest innovation using all-electric motorcycles, a great example of how forward-thinking the world of motorcycle racing can be.

How the MotoGP Season Works

However, our focus is on the premier🍒 division, so let’s break down a few key things. At the time of writing, the engines are an absolute eye-watering 1000cc, having advanced from 500cc over the years.

MotoGP today is, quite literally, the fastest and most exciting it’s ever been. Thꦆe races begin with the three 45 minutes practice sessions. The rider’s times are then used to split them into qualifying segments, and the results of those qualifying segments determine the positions of each of the riders at the start of the race.

The season has bജeen altered for the 2022 campaign with the introduction of three further races from the 18 that were present last term at tracks across the world. Points are awarded to the top 15 positions, with an overall leader board eventually crowning the champion and the end of the season.

We hope you are beginning to see the kind of depth this can offer from a betting strategy. Just consider how much you can glean from these qualifying races,🌳 even factoring out the obvious impact of the starting positions themselves.

Then, combine that with the complexity of understanding its history, the technical side of the bikes, the individual characteristics of the riders, and it is clear that this is a sport worthy of the focus of betting tacticians. Meanwhile, the simplicity of the racing concept makes it accessible to those who have never placed a bet.

  • List Icon

The first difference is recognisable immediately as MotoGP involves racing on a motorbike, while Formula One is competed in a single-seat car. The bike is more nimble and mobile than a Formul🏅a On♉e car, although the speeds of F1 vehicles are quicker due to the power of their engines. With this mind mind, do not be surprised to see the times of respective circuits land in favour of Formula One cars over MotoGP bikes.

  • List Icon

The principle of the competition follows the same pattern. There are qualifying rounds to earn a place on the grid in both disciplines, although the style does differ between MotoGP and Formula One. There are a set number of Grand Prixs over the course of the season, with the driver/rider with the most points awarded the crown. Both sports award points to the winner, declining in descending order to a certain parameter. Formula One offers point to the first 10 cars to cross the finish line and an additional one for the fastest lap, while MotoGP awards points to the first 15 competitors to cross the line.

  • List Icon

Races are shorter for MotoGP, lasting for a peri෴od of 45 minutes as there are fewer laps for the riders to complete. Formula One can last for over an hour as not only are there more laps t🐷o complete, but also more pit stops for fuel and repairs compared to its motorbike counterpart. Incidents are commonplace between both MotoGP and Formula One, which can delay the time taken to complete the race.

  • List Icon

The two sports also sh༒are the same tracks for the majority of t💫heir races, which are both situated around the globe.

  • List Icon

In terms of the action itself, both are exhilarating to watch with no shortage of drama. There is plen🧜ty of entertainment to be had while watching MotoGP or Formula One, along with many betting options for both motorsport disciplines.

MotoGP Betting Markets

One of the things people often underestimate when it comes to racing-based sports is how complex they can be, whether that’s horse racing, Formula 1, or indeed, MotoGP championship betting.

Th🐬ere are a wide range of MotoGP betting markets available that cater to all aspects of the sport. The basic options begin with backing a driver to win a race or even the championship at the end of the season. However, for people that are familiar with the sport or want to become familiar with the nuances of MotoG😼P, there are a number of compelling markets that capture the drama of the sport, featuring individual battles and the race to be the fastest driver around the track.

Here are our top five picks of the best mar🔯🍃kets available from leading operators.

Championship Winner

Instead of betting on who wins a single race, you can instead bet on who you think will win the whole tournament. The 2022 MotoGP season is 22 races long, and works on a points-based system, meaning there’s lots to sink your teeth into. This market requires you to make your pick and stick with it until the end. Alternatively, you can back more than one option, so you can enjoy the whole event through multiple threads. You could also go even further by backing several races and a Championship winner as part of an accumulator.

Rider vs Rider

Here at ThePuntersPage, we are big fans of betting markets which help you see your favourite sports in a new light. Rider vs Rider is a perfect example. As far as this market is concerned, the rest of the race is irrelevant – all that matters to the success of this bet is whether one rider beats another. This allows you to really focus in on a couple of competitors, and is ideal for those looking for a relatively traditional ma⛦rket that allows you to back a single driver while taking advantage of shorter odds.

Without Driver

This is another example of a market which theoretically takes drivers out of contention. Instead of narrowing it down to only two competitors, though, this market simply takes the favourite out of consideration. This is a really useful when you have a race that overwhelmingly is in the favour of a particular competitor.

In that sense, it essentially plays the same that Asian handicap betting does- it levels the playing field. Put simply, overwhelming favourites can make things rather dull from a betting perspective. You are often left with a choice of backing a racer with such short odds that it may be of little interest. Your other option in this scenario would be to go against the grain and likely lose, while also going against your betting instincts. Without Driver allows you🌠 to bet on the race as though the favourite were not there at all, eliminating those types of issues.

Podium Finish

Similar to each-way betting, a podium finish sees your pick emerge as the victor – so long as they manage to reach the top three positions (in other words, if they are on the podium at the end of the race). Considering these races have 25 riders involved, only betting on an individual to win can be very limiting. It can affect who you can back and the type of prices you can pursue – and we’re always looking for the best betting odds. By e📖xtending this to a top three, you have a lot more options.

Fastest Lap

You can probably get a fairly good idea of what this one is all about from the title alone. Fastest Lap sees you back the driver you think will complete the race with the fastest lap time, even if you do not think they will actually win the race. This is a fantastic market for those who have done their homework and based on solid tips, because it often requires an in-depth understanding of the riders and their dynamics.

For instance, if you have a driver with very sporadically strong but inconsistent performances, then they could walk away with the fastest lap without ever touching the podium. This is also a great market for double bets, as it can allo♌w you to paint a ꦇcoherent picture of events.

Betting successfully on MotoGP is a sum of many different parts. One incredible element that should neve⛄ཧr be overlooked is the importance of the races themselves. They are every bit as important to the idea of MotoGP as the people behind the sport, adding not just variety, or even just great scenery, but arenas of biking excellence which have their very own personality.

1. TT Circuit Assen – The Netherlands

Assen has been involved in over 250 races since its inception in 1949. It's not just history which puts it here; it may have shrunk in miles in recent years down to a little ꦰunder three miles, but its fast flat outs and tight corners means “tꩲhe cathedral” of MotoGP still stands as an ideal place to worship at the altar of speed.

2. Silverstone Circuit – Great Britain

Although it is more famous as a key part of Formula 1 history, Silverstone also hosts th♎e Great British portion of the top international motorcycle escapades, and does so with style with an exci🌟ting, versatile course. It opens explosively, with several quick leans before the burst of the Hangar straight. Each element is designed to build to a delightful crescendo.

3. Le Mans – France

Another one of the biggest names in MotoGP championship betting history, this French track has earned that reputation since it started hosting world championship races in 1969. It has even outlived iconic French races to become the sole host for Moto🌱GP online betting in France. The modern version of this circuit, known as the Bugatti Circuit, continues this tradition with the power of 100,000 passiona🗹te French fans cheering on the action.

4. Autodromo del Mugello – Italy

This Ferrari-owned track is legendary both in the worlds of Formula 1 and MotoGP, where it forms the Italian leg of the Grand Prix. It’s a typically stunning effort by that legendary figure in racing, with narrow, tight corners taking the steering skills of🍸 the riders to their absolute limit.

5. Losail International Circuit, Lusail – Qatar

The first race of a season always sets the tone, and all drivers and teams will be desperate to make a statement from the off in Qatar in the 2022 campaign. There are more challenging tracks on the circuit, but this is a good starting point for the competitors. Losail International Circuit hosts a capacity of 8,000 spectators, who will be in good voice to kickstart the term. Francesco Bagnaia set the fastest time by a MotoGP driver at the circuit in the 2021 season, posting a lap of 1:54.491. Whoever marks the first Grand Prix of the season with a victory could 🍌be in line f🐬or a very good campaign.

The 2022 MotoGP season promises just to be as thrilling as the previous iterations of the competition. As usual, there has been movement over the course of the off-season, in regards to both teams and drivers. Most notable of all, legendary Valentino Rossi retired from the sport at the end of the 2021 season after a distinguished 21-year career. The Italian claimed the MotꩲoGP crown on seven occasions, the last of which came in the 2009 campaign. Although Rossi was not a poignant title race over the last five years, hi🍌s presence will be sorely missed by the sport.

Rossi will now take point in an ownership role of the VR🎐46 Racing Team, who, while among the new faces in the sport, are not alone in boosting the ranks of competitive outfits.

Aprilia Racing have entered the MotoGP fold for the first time since 2004, although they previously were a supplier for Gresini from the 2015 campaign onwards. Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales will suit up for the Italian outfit for the 2022 season. Gresini have also ventured out into the world on their own footing, and will be usi🅠ng Ducati bikes in the campaign.

Esponsorama Racing and Petronas SRT opted to leave the sport at the end of the 2021 season, but RNF MotoGP Racing have replaced the latter in their slot for the 2022🌞 campaign, with the potenti🐈al to expand their tenure beyond end of the season.

After a successful season in Moto2 season, champion Remy Gardner and runner-up Raúl Fernandez have made the transition into MotoGP and will represent Tech3 KTM. Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio will line-up for Gresini, while Marco Bezzecchi will enter the action for VR46.

Reigning champion Fabio Quartararo will be out to win the crown for a second time on the bounce after notching the ꦓMotoGP Championship for the first time last term. Quartararo became the first Frenchman in the history of the sport to win the title, ending a run of nine-straight Spanish champions.

The great Marc Marquez has endured a quiet two years, but he will be determined to end his drought without the crown to add to his collection of five titles. Joan Mir endured a setback after his triumph in 2020, and now has the challenge of re-establishing himself as the leading rider in the sport. Bagnaia will also be amon🐓g the contingent of Spanish riders in pursuit of the title💛 after narrowly missing out by finishing second last season.

MotoGP Championship Outright Odds

We'll publish the latest MotoGP odds once they have been 🎃released by leadinꦉg bookmakers.

If you’re looking at MotoGP betting, you'll be glad to know that the sport is far from obscure and far fr🌠om being hard to find at bookmakers. ൲;

In terms of accessibility, however, it is probably in the mid-range – there may be quite the gulf between the variety of markets offered and the quality of odds available.

That is why it’s so important to find a bookmaker that offers variety to a high standard. Finding that perfect option for you is what we are all about, just like we do for all the best online betting sites UK out there.

MotoGP Betting Promotions
(Source: Betfair)

To be realistic about what you can expect, there are not usually that many promotions aimed specifically at MotoGP betting in the UK. It can certainly happen – you may get enhanced odds on a specific grand Prix, for instance, but it’s not especially common.

However, don’t mistake that for meaning there is a lack of promotions. MotoGP is included on most general sports promotions, and has plenty of scope seeing as it’s a racing sport. In other words, if there is a general free bet offer, accumulator insurance not tied to a particular sport, or if you get to choose where to use your enhanced odds offers, MotoGP betting is usually included.

The truth is that many of the best bonuses are generic, so even if there are no specific bonuse🎶s for MotoGP, those broader options should still mean that you don't miss out.

Needless to say, Moto🔴GP betting is tied to a sport for which speed is a big priori๊ty. (Shocking, we know).

And, in any kind of scenario where you are trying to place live bets on a sport 🏅whose events evolve so rapidly in real time, you will need a betting site that has a live service capable of following that action. More importantly, you will need one which can allow you to respond to that action at a moment’s notice.

Any kind of slowdown, stuttering, broken links, anything that could prevent you from reacting with your well-timed bet, could end up costing you money. This is always the case, but when you are talking about 1000cc bikes? It’s even more prꦺessing.

🥂 That’s why, when writing up our list of best bookmakers, live quality was a very important factor in our d🎉ecision making.

So was livestreaming. While the ability to livestream is often beyond the control of the bookmaker (licensing rights can be an issue, for instance), it is always a wonderful addition when possible. Happily, MotoGP betting in the UK often gets good livestreaming coverage, meaning you can simultaneously bet on and watch the best ✨races from all around the world. Who needs to ask when MotoGP is on TV? The answer to where to watch MotoGP is, quite simply, anywhere you have access to your bookmaker!

And the latter point le🤡ads us on to our next section.

The Mobile Factor

Everything we just talked about with regards to live betting, and indeed, MotoGP betting in general, should also be found on the best mobile apps. Not only do we expect them to have the same level of content as their desktop counterparts, includ💫ing live streams, but our technical standards remain just as high.

Betting on mobile has come a long way, to the point where your live betting should be every bit as silky smoไoth when done correctly.♉ We considered the mobile factor very seriously when choosing our top bookmakers, especially since these devices have become the primary mode of betting for so many people.

Moreoever, we’ll never not be impressed by being able to take a device out of ouꦰr pocket and, in just ⛄a few taps, be watching while betting on the most incredible races throughout the world.

For those of you who want to dig a little deeper and get a better understanding of MotoGP, we've included a glossary below of some key terminology examples. To help you on your betting journey in general, check out our detailed betting terms and definitions page!

  • Apex – This is the innermost point on a corner – in other words, the tightest point which will require the most leverage. It is a vital part of quality racing, because riders need to start accelerating at this point or face a serious loss of speed.

  • Bodywork – The exteri💛or of the bike is known as the bodywork, responsible for its look and shape. In MotoGP championships, it is pretty much all carbon fibre for aerodynamic reasons.

  • Braking Marker – A point on the track which helps riders know when to start braking – you may not notice it, as it can be something as innocuous as a tree.

  • Clutch – This is the mechanism used to engage or disengage with the engine, and would be used in a car to change gears. However, it♉ is only used at the start of MotoGP, as “seamless” gearboxes are fitted for smoother travel.

  • Dashboard – This is the electric panel of the front of the bike which provides the driver with all necessary info about the eಞngine, electronics, and lap times.

  • Drag – When an object moves through the air there is a contradicting force pushing them back known as drag, slowing them down. 🦂This is why it is so important for the bikes to be as aerodynamic as they possibly can be.

  • Dry Race – If a rac𒈔e occurs on a track that has not suffered from rain, it is known as a dry race. This can have a huge impact on everything from the tires used to the end result itself.

  • Flags – Although the objects themselves need no explaining, flags are especially important forꦕ communicating with the riders about changing conditions or situations in the race. They're vital for the safety of everyone involved.

  • Formation Lap – Before the race begins, the riders will take a🍌 lap around before. This isn’t just for show or even just for practice, as it actually warms up the tires and brakes for optimal performance.

  • Grand Slam – As a term, Grand Slam is used in many differꦉent sports with different specifics for each. In MotoGP, it means a rider has achieved a pole position, fastest race lap and a victory in a Grand Prix.

  • Grid – The starting straight where the riders line up based on their allocated pos༺ition.

  • Hairpin – An extremely tight curve, shaped liked a V.

  • Hole-Shot – This term is for when a driver leads the race🌠 on the first corner.

  • Lean Angle – When a rider tilts the bike into the track on a corner, the degree of this is known as the lean angle, and naturally has an impact on how well they take that corner. The maxi𝔉mum lean angle can even see the racers elbows and knees touching the ground.

  • Pole Position – The rider that secures the first starting place on the grid is said to h✱ave pole position.

  • Slicks – A type of tire with no tread, designed specifically for racin𝔍g.

We think that for the majority of people reading this, what is available in terms of betting will reach beyond their expectations. When checking our candidates for the best out there, we we🃏re consistently impressed by many of the bookmakers.

Make no mistake – our list of the best MotoGP betting sites is truly a tough selection to make it into. The general standard today towards the top end is just so high, with incredible market variety, quality odds, superb promotions, and a superb live experience to boot. There are few truer tests of just how varied a bookmaker is than the incredible p🍨ace of MotoGP!

It is the top premier division of professional 🌠motorcycle racing.

While F1 is the topflight of auto raciꦗng for single-seat racing cars, MotoGP is a motorcycle racing class.𝔉 They do, however, share a lot of the same tracks.

Most bookmakers wi𝓰ll offer some form of MotoGP betting coverage; however, the quality of what is offered by those bookmakers does vary greatly. Check out our list🌄 at the beginning of this article.

It depends on the race, but livestreaming is regula꧒rly available on MotoGP races. Check with your preferred bookmaker for specifics.

Many general sports promotions are available for use on MotoGP betting, with a fewꦚ bonuses dedicated to the sport too.
